Can I ship e-bikes from China to Japan?

Yes. E-bikes carry lithium batteries, so they ship as dangerous goods in a DG container by sea. Send the packing list, invoice and battery documents, and we will quote once we have checked them.

How long does it take from China to Japan?

Shipped from Shenzhen, cleared at Tokyo Port and delivered within the Kanto region, e-bikes arrive about 30 days after shipment. From other ports, transit follows the vessel schedule.

What does the quote include?

Ocean freight and origin charges, Japan port charges (which can be billed at cost), customs clearance and delivery from the port to your address, each listed separately. Japanese duties and import consumption tax are charged on top according to the declared value.

Our terms with the factory are FOB. Can you handle just the rest?

Yes. Under FOB the factory loads the goods on board, and we take over the ocean freight, Japan clearance and delivery. If you have booked the vessel yourself, you can hire us for Japan clearance and delivery only.

Can I ship fewer bikes than a full container?

Send us the packing list, invoice and battery documents. We will confirm which service can carry them based on the volume and the batteries, then quote.

Can I ship batteries or chargers on their own?

Loose lithium batteries face stricter shipping rules than batteries fitted to the vehicle. Send the battery model, capacity and MSDS and we will confirm. Chargers without batteries can usually ship with the bikes.

E-bikes carry large lithium batteries, and lithium batteries are Class 9 dangerous goods, so general cargo services and most couriers will not take them. Shenma Fastship handles them as dangerous goods on its Japan service: we check the battery documents, declare the dangerous goods and book a DG container, then clear customs in Japan and deliver to your warehouse or chosen address.

Japanese importers often buy e-bikes by the container from Chinese factories. If the factory quotes FOB, we take over once the goods are on board; we can also collect from the factory and handle export customs. Japanese Rules to Check Before Selling

An electric-assist bicycle's assist ratio must meet the standard of Japan's Road Traffic Act; one that does not is treated as a moped (原動機付自転車) and needs a plate and insurance. A specified small motorized bicycle must meet the safety standards of the Road Transport Vehicle Act and needs a plate and compulsory insurance on public roads, so models that have passed the performance check (性能等確認) are the safer choice. The bundled charger may fall under the Electrical Appliances and Materials Safety Act (PSE). These obligations sit with the importer or seller in Japan; we handle shipping and customs clearance.
